Belgian Luxembourg : a many-sided land of tourism

A many-sided land of tourism

The tourist sector occupies a major place in the economy of the Province of Luxembourg. It has become a real tool of development. It’s a major direct and indirect job-provider.

There are over 44,000 beds spread out in the various sectors of tourist accommodation (hotels, camping sites, rural tourism, holiday villages and youth tourism) to which a large choice of restaurants and a nice sampling of tourist attractions can be added.

A diversified offer
It’s not by chance that the greenest province in the country is visited each year by millions of tourists, coming mainly from Belgium and adjacent countries. From the Famenne to the Gaume, through the Ardennes, Belgian Luxembourg offers twelve “lands of tourism” with diverse characteristics.

A life-size sports ground
Lovers of soft or intense sports will find what they enjoy in a truly life-size sports ground. Vast green spaces crossed by pretty rivers are ideal for the practice of numerous disciplines such as hiking, MTB, rock climbing, rafting, horse-riding, golf, adventure sports…

History and traditions
History and tradition lovers will be pleased to visit Bouillon, cradle of the 1st Crusade and its famous castle, or then the castle of La Roche and its legendry ghost, the Abbey of Orval, Bastogne or many museums with rich collections. Everywhere, towns and villages are clean and flowered, welcoming. They offer a peaceful and relaxing setting to those who are in search of rest, relaxation and recharging of batteries.

A reputation
Hospitality is the golden rule since always in Belgian Luxembourg. This reputation is dear to its inhabitants, just as the reputation of their table from the simple rural meal to gastronomy, always rich of rural produce. Cured Ardenne meats, Orval cheese, Purnalet liqueur, Maitrank from Arlon, not forgetting the Orval Trappist Beer and the Chouffe of which the fame has crossed the borders, bringing with them other traditional beers with an authentic taste.

A land of feasts and festivals
Culture also has a choice place in the Luxembourg life. The festive and friendly spirit needs not be proven. The meetings of numerous brotherhoods, the colourful carnivals, the jazz music festivals (Gouvy and Gaume), the festivals of story-tellers in Chiny and of street performers in Chassepierre are only some examples. These events draw thousands of visitors each year as does the Agricultural Fair of Libramont, the European fair of rural life. Also the yearly lap of the MTB World Cup in Houffalize.

Privileged province by its preserved natural environment, Belgian Luxembourg definitely has a many-sided tourist offer.
